Nimotop is a nimodipine. It can prevent or eliminate spasm of vessels caused by various drugs such as serotonin or histamine. Due to its the high lipophility penetrates the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Nimotop improves stability and functional capacity of neurons. The medication also affects positively learning ability and memory by blocking of Ca2+-channels in certain brain areas, such as the hippocampus and cerebral cortex.

Dosage and direction

Take the medication orally exactly as prescribed to you. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Take on an empty stomach with a full glass of water one hour before or two hours after a meal. To get the most benefit of the drug take it regularly.

Precautions

Cautiousness should be exercised in individuals with severe bradycardia, liver failure, mild or moderate hypotension, myocardial infarction associated with the failure of left ventricular, intracranial hypertension, generalized edema of the brain tissue. Avoid drinking of grapefruit juice while you ar eon Nimptop. When Nimptop is used with rifampicin effectiveness of the former can be reduced. Simultaneous adminitration of nimodipine with cimetidine or valproic acid may lead to increased concentrations of nimodipine in blood serum. Beta-blockers used together with Nimptop may cause considerable drop in blood pressure. Procainamide, quinidine used together with Nimptop may significantly increase the risk of elongation of the QT interval.

If phenobarbital, phenytoin or carbamazepine were used for a long time before nimodipine they may reduces its bioavailability.
